The TrinitySo, our Silverlight focus was shifted away from the web and towards Windows Phone 7 for the Silverlight UK User Group on July 21st! With all the hype and mystery surrounding the new soon-to-be-launched phone OS, the night was a perfect opportunity to learn and debunk some myths from Ian Blackburn, who has been  fortunate enough to become an early adopter. Despite our hopes and prayers that a pre-release, developer handset would be on show to be ogled at, alas it was not to be – the delay being that these handsets were being shipped from the US just two days before the meeting and thus had not arrived.

Ian Blackburn is an established Windows Mobile developer, check out his Love Lewisham application where residents of Lewisham can notify the council of offending items on the streets (eg: graffiti, rubbish, broken paving etc…) by taking pictures on their smartphones. Ian’s already got iPhone and Windows Mobile applications published for the system. Getting ready for Windows Phone 7 is his next logical step and thus he’s invested a lot of effort in producing a condensed briefing of the new platform, help kick-start your development or publishing aspirations for Windows Phone 7.

We did not capture any video for the event, but Ian produced a rather comprehensive set of slides, which are shown below.

This is a cross post from my EMC blog, mainly for backup duplicity and to aggregate some of my past postings. My EMC blog used to be under the Conchango brand but was acquired by EMC so I’ve also retrospectively refreshed some of the old links and maybe a tweak a bit of content too.
